About Hot Coffee

Hot Coffee costs $1.99 and is brewed fresh in restaurant, served black by default with cream and sugar available at the counter. As served plain it adds essentially nothing to a meal in calorie terms.

It is the standard pairing for every breakfast item on the menu, and because the breakfast window runs from 11 pm to 11 am, it is available at hours most coffee shops are closed. Flavored versions are listed separately at $2.69.

How to Make Hot Coffee at Home?

Good drip coffee is a ratio and a grind. Sixty grams of coffee per litre of water, ground medium, water just off the boil.

Ingredients

60 g medium roast coffee beans
1 litre filtered water

Instructions

Step 1. Heat the water to 200 F, just off a full boil.
Step 2. Grind the beans to a medium consistency, similar to coarse sand.
Step 3. Rinse the paper filter with hot water and discard the rinse.
Step 4. Bloom the grounds with twice their weight in water for 30 seconds.
Step 5. Pour the remaining water in slow circles and serve immediately.

Tips

Rinse the filter first or the coffee tastes of paper.
The 30 second bloom releases trapped gas and noticeably improves the flavor.
Grind immediately before brewing. Pre ground coffee loses most of its aroma within days.
