Showing 24 of 780 locations. Every restaurant is listed on its city page below.
Whataburger opened its first stand in Corpus Christi in 1950, and Texas has carried the chain ever since. The 780 restaurants in this state account for roughly two thirds of every Whataburger in the country, which is why the orange and white A-frame reads as Texas shorthand rather than as a fast food logo.
San Antonio leads the state with 58 locations and Houston follows with 56, ahead of Fort Worth at 25, Corpus Christi and El Paso at 24 each, and Austin and Dallas at 21. Corpus Christi placing that high on a list of far larger cities says something about where the chain came from. Beyond the metros the coverage reaches Tyler, Laredo, Lubbock and hundreds of smaller towns most national brands skip entirely.
The menu does not change from city to city. A Whataburger in El Paso is built the same way as one in Beaumont, with the same five inch bun, the same made to order patty and the same mustard, lettuce, tomato, pickles and diced onions unless you say otherwise. What varies is hours, and even that varies less here than anywhere else, since most Texas stores run around the clock.
Late night is when Texas Whataburger locations do their defining work. Between the 11 PM breakfast changeover and the 11 AM switch back to burgers, the drive thru is often the only thing open on the road, and that has made the chain part of the state's after midnight routine for decades.
The app handles curbside and rewards at effectively every Texas store, and delivery through DoorDash, Uber Eats and Grubhub covers the metros comprehensively. For groups, the 10 Whataburger Box and the Family Fry Box are the standard Texas tailgate and team dinner order, and most locations will take a large order by phone with some notice.
