North Carolina is one of Whataburger's newest markets and the footprint is still building. 18 restaurants across 14 cities means the chain is seeding broadly, with Charlotte, Greensboro, Hickory and Raleigh each carrying 2 and every other city exactly one. No North Carolina city has more than two locations yet.
Three clusters have formed. Charlotte and Gastonia cover the southwest, with Mooresville north of the city. The Triad around Greensboro, High Point, Archdale, Kernersville and Winston-Salem forms the center, and the Triangle around Raleigh, Garner and Wake Forest covers the east, with Hickory, Mebane and Southern Pines filling in between.
The menu is identical to Texas. Same made to order Whataburger, same Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit, same 11 PM to 11 AM breakfast window. In a state where the fast food competition is dense, the made to order build and the overnight hours are the two things that most clearly separate Whataburger from what is already here.
New market locations tend to run busy, and North Carolina has seen exactly that since the chain arrived. Drive thru lines at newer stores are longest in the first months after opening and settle as the local rhythm establishes itself.
Most locations run 24 hours with breakfast from 11 PM to 11 AM. The app handles curbside and rewards, which is the fastest route at a busy new store. DoorDash, Uber Eats and Grubhub cover the Charlotte, Triad and Triangle metros thoroughly.
